23 Years Ago On This Day, Belinda Clark Scored ODI Cricket’s First 200

Hope you all are well aware of the Sachin’s innings of 200 not out in 2010. It was a day in the cricket history when the unexpected happened and it was none other than the ‘God of cricket’ to achieve it. It was considered highly appreciable even if any batsman scores a ton for his team in an ODI but Sachin came out all guns blazing that day against South Africa in Gwalior. The stadium was full of the chants of ‘Sachin, Sachin….’ as everyone couldn’t believe what they had seen. On that day Sachin became the first ever men cricketer to achieve the 200 mark. After Sachin, many players achieved that feet like Virender Sehwag, Martin Guptill, Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma has achieved it twice, once scoring 264 against Sri Lanka.

The first ODI double ton:

But here comes an unknown fact, every cricket fan knows that Sachin was the first man to achieve the feet of scoring 200 but here I repeat he was the first man to do so, not the first person as 23 years ago in 1997, Australia’s Belinda Clark scored a double century in an ODI to reach 200 vs Denmark in women’s ODI cricket. She did what no person could do ever in cricket.

That day and Australia’s brilliance:

Clark finished with 229 not out in 155 balls. Her innings contained 22 fours. Australia posted 412/3 and bundled out Denmark for just 49. This is also the second highest score overall after Rohit Sharma’s 264. Mind you, at this time, men’s cricket was yet to break the 400 barrier. That would happen in 2006.
