Australian Legend Richie Benaud Would Have Turned 90 This Day. He Will Always Be Missed!

Richard Benaud aka Richie was a former Australian cricketer who was known as an all-rounder for the Australian cricket team.

Richie was the best when it came to bowling as well as batting. He also captained the Australian cricket team in some Tests. 

Born on 6th October 1930 Richie’s 90th birthday was celebrated by Australia by paying tribute to the legend in a video that was posted on twitter.

Several other boards from around the world have paid their tributes by remembering the legend on his birthday. 

Richie also did commentary in his later years after retiring from cricket. He was even famous for that too. Richie had retired in the year 1964 and soon after that, he devoted all his time to commentary. Here is how BCCI had paid their tribute to the legend:

In the 3 min video posted by Cricket, Australia fans have seen some of the moments captured from the legend’s cricket life. In the video, Richie was seen greeting his colleagues “Morning, everyone” which will definitely put a smile on your face. 

Benaud’s Career at A Glance

Richie had an excellent figure both in cricket as well as in bowling. He played 63 Tests for his country scoring more than 2200 runs with three centuries and 9 half-centuries. Talking about his bowling figures, he took 248 wickets with 16-five wickets hauls and one 10-wicket haul as well. 

Richie’s death was due to his suffering from skin cancer. He took his last breath on 10th April 2015 aged 84.
