Ben Stokes could miss the World T20

One of the best all-rounders and England star Ben Stokes could miss the World T20 to be played in the United Arab Emirates with Super 12 stages starting from 23rd October 2021.

Stokes, who is currently on an indefinite break, would miss the 2nd leg of IPL for Rajasthan Royals. The all-rounder injured his right hand during a match against Punjab Kings at Mumbai during 1st leg of this season, he was ruled out of IPL due to a hand injury.

It would be a big blow for the England team if Stokes would miss the prestigious tournament. He will be not taking part in the 2nd leg of IPL as Oshane Thomas has been named his replacement for Rajasthan Royals.

With the deadline being 10th September to announce the squad for World T20 2021, it will be interesting to see if selectors keep him in 15 men and 3 reserves squad.

“As changes can be made freely up until October 10, seven days before the tournament’s group stage begins, Chris Silverwood could provisionally name the 2019 World Cup-winning star within that 18.

However, given the circumstances, the ECB may be unwilling to place any undue pressure on their talismanic all-rounder, having said they would give him ‘all the time he needs’ when he announced his break on July 30,” further said the report.

England reached the finals of World T20 2016 losing to defending Champions West Indies in a thrilling final as Carlos Braithwaite smashed 4 successive six off Stokes.

This will be a serious blow for the Eoin Morgan-led side who has been in excellent form in white-ball cricket.

Stokes was named as the captain for the 3 match ODI series against Pakistan at home without absence of key players due to COVID 19. After two games in the Hundred for Northern Superchargers, the all-rounder announced an indefinite break from cricket.

The England Cricket Team are placed in tough group including West Indies, South Africa, Australia, 2 qualifiers from qualifying stages.

Stokes played a massive role to help England register their maiden ICC title in the 2019 World Cup. He performed brilliantly with both bat and ball giving vital contributions at important times.

England start their World T20 campaign against defending Champions West Indies on 23rd October at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.
