‘Brutally cruel’: Pat Cummins in $3.1 million IPL ‘disaster’

For anyone who follows cricket they must be well aware of the Australian speedster Pat Cummins and the fierce bounce and pace that he produces and what a threat to the opposition he can be being the number 1 ICC test bowler currently.

The Cost:

It was for the same reason that he got a contract of ₹3.1 million i.e. ₹31 lakhs by the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020, the highest ever for an overseas player ever since IPL started in 2008.

The Unlucky Match:

However, the IPL opener against the Mumbai Indians was certainly not his day. He conceded 49 runs from the 3 overs he bowled without taking any wickets and this resulted in Mumbai finishing on 195-5 with captain Rohit Sharma playing a blistering knock of 80 from 54 deliveries.

In the run chase, KKR fell well short of the total and even their most trusted Andre Russell did not deliver and as a result, they lost the match by 49 runs which could have a big say on the net run rate if the chances of KKR qualifying reaches that stage.

Although Cummins was the highest scorer for KKR scoring 33 runs, it was his performance with the ball that will be remembered most for this match. He also had lesser fitness as he ended his quarantine period only on Wednesday and was asked to take the pitch by KKR.

Hope he gets back to full fitness in the next game and hopefully, KKR can put up a much better display of the game.

Well, we will keep sharing further updates. Until then, stay tuned!
