Claiming to be the Fastest

Well managing an average of more than 99 in cricket as a batsman is not everyone’s cup of tea and the only man to do it was Sir Don Bradman. Getting him out wasn’t a cakewalk for any bowler and that’s what made him so great.

Farooq’s claims:

Recently in an interview given to the Dawn, former Pakistani speedster Farooq Hamid claimed that he was the first person to ball at a speed of more than 100 miles per hour at 110-115 miles per hour.

He also said that Sir Don Bradman considered him as the fastest bowler of that time and many others like Zaheer Abbas and Imtiaz Ahmed also appreciated his bowling.

Interestingly Farooq has played only one test match for Pakistan against Australia in 1964.

Claims to be a victim of politics:

He said that he performed extremely well in a match on the New Zealand tour but was surprised to see his name not being included in the squad for the test match.

He further said that in England in a warm-up game against Lancashire at the old Trafford ground, he took 5 wickets in a quick spell but his captain did not allow him to bowl further.

He told me that all this continued to happen with him and he finally decided to quit cricket at the age of 25 as a victim of harsh politics.
