Cricket Australia planning to move Boxing Day Test against India to Adelaide amid COVID-19 fears

Cricket Australia’s traditional Boxing Day test against India could be shifted from Melbourne to Adelaide due to a surprisingly high number of Covid-19 cases in the state of Victoria. Adelaide could now be the front runner to host the Boxing Day Test from December 26, 2020, to December 30, 2020.

The meeting of National Cricket Cabinet is supposedly scheduled for next week, where most likely the discussion will be held for the smooth conduct of series without losing on finances.

Considering the current situation in Victoria it could be highly risky to go ahead with current plans while the state border restrictions have been implied. Unfortunately, Victoria’s death count has reached 170 with a total of 13000 positive cases being reported so far.

Looking at the current situation across Australia, Adelaide seems to be the safest of all with 457 confirmed cases out of which luckily 445 have already recovered. India’s tour to Australia towards the end of the year will comprise of four Tests and ODIs which as per CA would be financially critical assignment considering the cost of operations amidst the pandemic.

As per the current schedule, Team India will begin the Test Series under the captaincy of Virat Kohli on December 3rd at Brisbane. Following this a day/night Test will be played in Adelaide from December 11th to December 15th

The third one of the series was supposed to take place in Melbourne from December 26th to December 30th however it could be moved to Adelaide now as per the latest updates. The fourth test is scheduled at Sydney from January 3rd, 2021 to January 7th, 2021.

CA has confirmed that India’s tour will take place on the suggested date but the venue could change concerning the health and safety during the Global Covid-19 outbreak.

Apart from the arrangement made by authorities, it’s important that the audience planning to visit the matches must also follow all the safety and health protocols. It’s apparent that the number of audiences that will be allowed to the stadiums will be very limited.

As of now, the discussions are still ongoing and no concrete decision is expected to be made at least until next week. Once it’s confirmed if the Boxing Day Test will be moved to Adelaide or not a public statement will be issued for cricket fans.
