CRICKET: WEST INDIES SKIPPER JASON HOLDER RAISED QUESTIONS OVER ‘HOME UMPIRE’, AFTER SERIES DEFEAT TO KIWIS

International Cricket Council (ICC) came with a rule of introducing visiting umpires before 26 years when questions were raised on the use of home umpires as they were being complained about favouring the host side.

But due to the Covid-19 pandemic even after the international cricket has started Umpires have doubts regarding traveling. So, ICC is likely to introduce the home umpires to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus and to ensure safety.

‘If players can do travel, why not Umpires and match referees’ says Holder

ICC has started the culture of using home umpires for the series this year because of a reason we all, something which can’t be spelled. Haha!! Don’t worry, not ‘Voldemort’ due to the Covid-19. ICC wants to assure the safety of umpires who are fearing to travel.

It seems West Indian Skipper Jason Holder is not convinced of the motive of ICC. Though he didn’t complain about the officials in New Zealand. But after two heavy losses against New Zealand in back-to-back test matches made Holder think about the use of home umpires.

Holder in a press conference held on Monday said that it (pointing to umpiring systems in the series) could have been better if ICC would have introduced umpires from both countries. He said this because the whole series comprises the officials of New Zealand only.

The skipper added that there were some decisions where his team and he felt like that Umpires did a job for Kiwis which cost them the match with a loss by an innings and 134 runs and second match by an innings and 12 runs.

Well, he made a point to focus on when he said that why they are having home umpires. If players can travel and follow the protocols of quarantine then why the umpires from the visiting team are not allowed to travel with them. If it happens it will be fairer.

He went a little harsh on ICC saying that if the players are taking the risk to play cricket, by going through the road and following several protocols for Covid-19 why can’t Umpires do the same?

He held living in a bubble difficult. He said spending almost two months in a Bubble in Dubai for IPL and then coming for the series following the same protocols again is difficult.

ICC has its own concerns and Jason made a good point in the last. What I think is a sport is enjoyable if it is played fairer and ICC knows this.
