India Announce Squad For England Tour For 2022

For the first T20I, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has picked players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Venkatesh Iyer, and Arshdeep Singh who participated in the Ireland series, as many had expected.

They are not included in the lineup for the upcoming two games, though. While Umran Malik has been included in the team for just the three T20I games, Arshdeep has been included for the ODI series.

Ashwin Set to play

Information from the team India camp indicates that Ravichandran Ashwin will take the field for the postponed series finale. Under the previous team management headed by Ravi Shastri, he wasn’t given a chance to play in any of the four-Test matches held in England last year.

The circumstances have led current head coach Rahul Dravid and acting skipper Jasprit Bumrah to think about using the cunning off-spinner this time. According to sources, Ashwin will bowl alongside Ravindra Jadeja because the Indians will likely field two spinners and three pacers. With 684 wickets combined, the spin pair has only played four Tests outside of the subcontinent.

The team for Team India’s T20 and ODI series against England in 2022 was formally confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday evening. The T20 series team consists of 18 players. While a 17-person team has been named for the ODI series. 

The team as a whole appears to follow the predicted patterns with a slight deviation. Team India’s captain for both competitions is Rohit Sharma. But intriguingly, Team India revealed two different lineups for the T20 series.

18 players make up the roster for the first T20I. But for the second and third T20Is, a few players from the Test Team step in to replace a few players from the first T20I. The team that played against Ireland will face England in the first T20I, with the addition of Rohit Sharma as captain.

However, Team India has added Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja for the second and third T20I. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson, Venkatesh Iyer, and Arshdeep Singh are among those who leave. 

Even though players like Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Tripathi, and Venkatesh Iyer were unable to compete against Ireland, they are still considered likely candidates to compete in the 2022 T20 World Cup. It can be difficult for Sanju Samson to process. He failed to keep his spot for the England T20 series after his magnificent 50 against Ireland.

ODI series

In terms of the team for the ODI series, India has adopted a horses-for-courses strategy. They chose players who are most suited for the ODIs while leaving out several T20 specialists.

Shikhar Dhawan, Mohammed Shami, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur are some of the newcomers who were just added for the ODIs. 

Dinesh Karthik, Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, and Ravi Bishnoi are among those that were omitted. The absence of all of these guys is hardly shocking. They are viewed as T20 specialists, while in ODIs, others provide a higher value.

Similar to the T20 series, Team India could have chosen 18 players for the ODIs as well. They could have given Ravi Bishnoi or Deepak Hooda a chance if they had done it. But here is Team India’s official lineup for the ODI series against England in 2022.
