Mayank Agarwal – Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the first test because of injury. This opportunity again gives Mayank another chance. After his failures in Australia, Agarwal needs to battle it out against England. He was the preferred opening batsman for India once. Washington Sundar – Sundar add more variety in the bowling department and he can bat at number seven.
Washington Sundar is off-break bowling. Sundar made a brilliant debut in the deciding Test against Australia in Brisbane and turned the tide of the match by scoring 62 runs in the first innings. Washington Sundar batted well against England in the home series as well. But he was unfortunate to miss out in the WTC Final squad.

Ravichandran Ashwin – Ravichandran Ashwin will be the leader of the spin department in the Test match against England. Ash did well in the final of WTC. But India needed more batting from their spin bowling all-rounders.
Ashwin has been in good form recently. But if he could bat like the second innings of the Chennai Test match, then India will compete hard against England.

Jasprit Bumrah – The Boom Boom effect has been missing from Jasprit. He has not been that effective as he was earlier. In the WTC Final, Bumrah went wicketless which was a rare sight for the Indian fans. Now he will need to stand up and deliver for India otherwise, India also can think of Mohammad Siraj as the replacement of Bumrah.
