India vs England: Virat Kohli asks why there can’t be ‘I don’t know’ call from umpires

Virat Kohli, one of the great players in the history of Indian Cricket, feels that there should be an “I don’t know” option for the umpire in matches so that if they are not sure about the decision they can choose it. Virat Kohli made the statement after Suryakumar Yadav, another Indian player got out against England.

It was the 4th match of the T20 international series against India which is played at Narendra Modi stadium Ahmedabad,  Dawid Malan, England cricketer took the catch of Suryakumar Yadav in which somehow his hands were not closed and the ball touched the ground. Still, Umpire couldn’t decide properly and gave out a decision for Suryakumar Yadav. Virat Kohli, the captain of the team, did not like the decision of the Umpire and made the statement after the match ended.

Suryakumar Yadav shows exceptionally well performance in the match with scoring 57 runs. He could have scored more if he did not have got out. According to the third umpire, the ball did touch the ground and it wasn’t an out but the field umpire thought that it did not touch the ground, hence Suryakumar Yadav had to go back to Pavillion.

Virat Kohli added that if the umpire wasn’t sure, why he had to give a decision, he can say he did not know and let the third umpire give the decision. Luckily, the team won the match by 8 runs. Kohli said that such a wrong decision could affect a whole match. Even the India team could lose the match as it was a difference of just 8 runs. It could have been the end of the series for India if the bowlers did not have performed well.

Though Suryakumar Yadav wasn’t much disappointed with the decision as he said that he had not any problem with Umpire’s call and he completely respected his decision. Even the commentator VVS Laxman couldn’t accept the umpire’s decision. He even wrote it on Twitter that how it could be the out.

He added that there the rule should be revised as one player can make a huge difference in a match. If the umpire didn’t know, he shouldn’t have made a call. Do you think the Umpire made the wrong call and the rule should be revised, or you are happy with the rule?
