India’s Squad for WTC Final and the Test series against England

The BCCI has announced the Indian Squad for the world test championship final against New Zealand and the five-match Test series against England. India and New Zealand will play the inaugural World Test Championship Final at Ages Bowl in Southampton from 18th June 2021 to 22nd June 2021, and the 23rd June 2021 has been kept as a reserve day.

Then Virat and his men will play a full-fleshed Test series against the home team, England, in July. The five-match Test series will start on 4th August 2021, and the tour ends on 14th September 2021.

India has not picked Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, and Prithvi Shaw in their test squad for WTC Final and the five-match series against England.

Hardik Pandya played his last Test match against England on the tour of 2018. Since then, the injuries and niggles have not allowed the all-rounder to play constantly.

After Hardik’s back injury, he is not bowling that much, and now, he has a shoulder injury as well, which was why he didn’t bowl a single over in the seven matches of the IPL 2021 season.

Prithvi Shaw was the preferred opener in the Test matches for India. But since his form wasn’t great in Australia and he also had a bad IPL 2020 season, India has not have picked Shaw to display his batting show on the tour of England.

Prithvi’s technique also had come under the scanner in Australia. He did well fairly well in the domestic circuit, and the recent half concluded IPL. But the selectors didn’t opt for Shaw, and KL Rahul will be the fourth opening choice in the test matches.

India already has three options for their opening slot. Rohit And Gill, who did a good job in Australia, are the first choice of the opening partners for India in the Test matches in England.

India also has Mayank Agarwal in the squad. Even though Agarwal has failed in Australia in the first two Test matches, the selectors still have faith in the young test opener.

Kuldeep Yadav is another spinner who has been dropped from India’s test side. This is because Kuldeep hasn’t got a fair bit of chances in India’s playing XI. He was the number one spin bowler, for India in the overseas Test matches. But his lack of form didn’t allow the selectors to pick him.

Kuldeep didn’t play a single Test match in Australia, and even when Ashwin and Jadeja were injured, India picked Washington Sundar. But not Kuldeep Yadav.

Mohammad Shami returns after a long injury layoff. Shami had missed the rest of the series in Australia after he got injured in the Pink Ball Test match at Adelaide.

India also has Shardul Thakir, Mohammad Siraj, Ishant Sharma, and Jasprit Burmah. Bhuvneshwar Kumar misses out from the squad. Bhuvi played the last Test match in 2018 against South Africa in Jonesburg.

India has uncertainty on its departure date. The BCCI is yet to hear from the ICC, and then the team will leave for England. ICC arranges the team’s travel in a gobble event. The Indian team might leave on 2nd June, as per the earlier, or leave on 5th June that will include the four standby players.

The Indian Women’s team might join Virat and Co in England. But still, the women are waiting for the squad announcement date, and they also need to hear from the mainboard, ICC. India’s women will play a one-off Test, three One-day International matches, and t20 Internationals against England from 15th June 2021.
