IPL 2021 – Match 16th Highlights Kohli and Paddikal chased 178 run target with ease as RCB won their fourth match on the bounce

It was the fourth win in four matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore yesterday in Mumbai. They are the only team to win all the matches and that too all of those wins have come in Wankhede Stadium.

After the bowlers restricted Rajasthan Royals to a decent total of 178 runs, the openers of RCB chased that target without losing any wickets. Skipper Kohli and Paddikal shared an unbeaten opening partnership of 181 runs which gave RCB a win by 10 wickets.

Bangalore won the toss and chose to field first. Jos Buttler and Manan Vohra gathered the momentum with few boundaries. But the new ball pair of Kyle Jamieson and Mohammad Siraj broke the top order of the Royals into pieces.

Jos was the first one to depart after he hit two boundaries, Siraj came back well and dismissed the wicket-keeper batsman of England. Buttler was clean bowled for just eight runs. In the next over, Manan Vohra followed Buttler to the pavilion. He was picked up by the Kiwi pacer Jamieson for just seven runs.

Miller was promoted up the order. But the South African middle-order batsman could manage only to face just two balls. He was clean bowled by a well-directed Yorker from Siraj for a second-ball duck. RR lost the momentum with a flurry of wickets.

Sanju Samson’s inconsistent run continued in this match as well. He batted well for his 21 runs. But he couldn’t hold the innings along as he did in the first game against PKBS. Samson was dismissed for 21 runs by Washington Sundar. The RR skipper couldn’t convert his steady start.

The lower order of RR came good for them in this match. Shivam Dube, the ex RCB player played a defining inning which allowed RR to bounce back into the match. Dube attacked the RCB bowlers from the word go. He was careful in between. But his mantra in this game was just to attack the RCB guys with his full range of strokes.

Riyan Parag who batted with Dube too didn’t shy of attacking. Dube and Parag added 61 runs in just six overs. But this partnership couldn’t kick on as Parag’s scoop shot went straight into the hands of Yuzvendra Chahal.  Riyan was out for 25 runs.

Rahul Tewatia too scored some handy runs for RR. But the last few overs weren’t played well by the RR batsmen as the RCB bowlers made a comeback. By the time Parag got set, Dube was dismissed for a well-made 40 runs and Morris too couldn’t provide the lusty blows towards the end. He was out for just 10 runs.

Riyan Prag’s 23 balls 40 run cameo allowed the Double R’s to play out the whole 20 overs, which didn’t look possible at one stage when RR was reeling at the score 18/3. Royals reached 177 runs only because of their lower-order batsmen who contributed in the crunch time of an innings.

The RCB bowlers started well and they came back brilliantly in the end. But they didn’t manage the middle overs well. Harshal and Siraj picked up three wickets each to their names while Kane Richardson, Kyle Jamieson, and Washington Sundar took one wicket in this match.

The run chase of 178 runs target wasn’t a tricky one for the RCB as their openers, Kohli and Paddikal chased this score down without any trouble. Kohli reached his milestone of 6,000 IPL runs and he was unbeaten for the whole 20 overs with Devdutt Paddikal.

Paddikal smashed his maiden hundred in the IPL. He was unbeaten on 101 runs and he earned the man-of-a-match award as well for his brilliant performance. Virat Kohli was not out on 72 runs. The RCB openers made the mockery of a decent score as they shared an unbeaten opening stand of 181 runs and won this match by ten wickets.
