IPL 2022: Intelligence Reports Potential Terrorist Attack On The Tournament In Mumbai, City Under Surveillance

Concerns have been raised about security in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). According to sources, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has learned during interrogation that the terrorists have been patrolling the Wankhede Stadium, Trident Hotel and surrounding streets.

Mumbai police have been warned about terrorist attacks during this year’s IPL. Sometimes a few days left. The game will be played in four stadiums. Among them, 20 matches are to be played in Wankhede. The security of players and support staff have already been beefed up.

Quick Response Team, Bomb Squad, State Reserve Police Force will be deployed from March 26 to May 22. Police have issued an interim directive. It also asked the franchisees to abide by certain rules and regulations regarding the safety of employees associated with the IPL.

It is learned that an armored vehicle will go in front of the bus of the IPL team. Cars cannot be parked from the team hotel to the stadium. There is an emergency exit for players only. The bus driver and other staff will be thoroughly searched. Staff will not be changed during IPL. Hotel staff will not be allowed in without proof of identity. If a player wants to bring a visitor, he must first get the permission of the team manager.

This time, two days before the start of the IPL, the question of security suddenly came to the fore.

Surveillance Increased In Mumbai

News spread around noon on Thursday that the terrorists had already set up surveillance at the Wankhede Stadium and the cricketers’ team hotel. And everything has been scrutinized. A section of the media claimed that they had informed the Mumbai police after the news reached the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Force.

However, Mumbai police later said they had no such information. However, it has also been said that flawless arrangements are being made for the IPL. There will be no security breaches for the stadium and the cricketers’ hotel. The 55 matches of the upcoming IPL will be played in Mumbai. Twenty of which will be in Wankhede. However, it is reported that new security guidelines have been sent to the IPL teams. 

The guidelines say,

a) Each team bus in the IPL will have a special vehicle of the security forces. 

b) Vehicles will not be allowed in the team hotel or stadium. 

c) Cricketers need to make special arrangements for their safety so that they can be picked up quickly when needed. 

d) Bus drivers and other IPL workers will be monitored and searched regularly. They cannot be replaced during the IPL. 

e) If a guest comes to the cricketers from outside, However, the permission of the team manager must be kept in advance. 

f) Hotel staff will not be able to enter without an identity card.

Due to Covid-19, this time the league match of IPL will be played in Maharashtra. At stadiums in Mumbai and Pune. The teams have been preparing for several days in different fields in Mumbai. All in all, the IPL has been in full swing for a few days now. Suddenly the question of security arose. However, according to the Mumbai Police, impeccable security measures are being taken.

In this situation, IPL is going to start on Saturday. Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will meet in the first match at Wankhede Stadium.
