Left -Handed batsman Shikar Dhawan has been made the captain of the Delhi squad which will participate in the Syed Mushtaq Trophy starting from 10th of January 2021. Significantly, Shikar Dhawan was part of the Indian team for limited over series against Australia. Shikar played some good knocks in that series and thus the Delhi selection committee has shown trust for him.

Delhi is placed in the elite E group for the tournament!

Shikar Dhawan has arrived in India after playing a limited over series against the Aussies. He played some tremendous knocks in the series. Significantly, the left-handed batsman was part of the limited over squad for One-days and T-20s against Australia. He returned from the tour as India is playing test series. Dhawan carried his thrilling form along with him to Australia. Though India lost the series he really played well in the One-day series. India made a great comeback in the T-20i series and won the T-20is by 2-1. His knock of 51 helped India in winning the second match. 

Due to his outstanding performance, the Delhi selection committee has selected him as the captain of the Delhi squad who will participate in the tournament. Delhi has announced a 20 members squad for the upcoming tournament. Indian Pacer Ishant Sharma is also included in the squad. Well, questions are on his fitness as he was suffering from a side strain injury which he got in the Indian Premier League held in UAE. Though he has recovered from the strain he couldn’t manage to get his name in the test squad of India against the Aussies. 

It is cleared that Ishant won’t play all the matches for Delhi. He will be unavailable for initial matches. His fitness to play the longest format of the game is still under examination. Other players include Nitish Rana, Pawan Negi, and Manjot Kalra are part of the squad.

Dhawan led Delhi has been placed in the Elite E group which already have Mumbai, Andhra, Kerala, and Puducherry. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, all league matches will be played at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai.

Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Ishant Sharma, Pawan Negi, Nitish Rana, Manjot Kalra, Anuj Rawat (Wk), Kshitiz Sharma, Himmat Singh, Jonty Sidhu, Hiten Dalal, Lalit Yadav, Shivank Vashisth, Pradeep Sangwan, Siddhant Sharma, Simarjeet Singh, Yush Badoni, Lakshay Thareja (wk), Vaibhav Kandpal, Pawan Suyal, Karan Dagar.


Shikhar has been given great responsibility. His form in test cricket has not been well and thus he is not included in the test format. Well, he has shown that he is fabulous in limited over cricket and he has carried that form with him. Let’s see how he captains the side and how youngsters play.
