Time’s running out for both Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag: Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir, the former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain looked out the current batting order of Rajasthan Royals and expressed concern about it.

He said Rajasthan Royals (RR) top-order batsmen Robin Uthappa and down the order, Riyan Parag, having less time to prove themselves to fit in the playing 11.

Gambhir, has a great record as an IPL captain, with two IPL titles to his name serving as a captain, said Uthappa was expected to play as the finisher’s role after the team gets momentum from the top order. However, he has failed to give finishing knock or even didn’t able to empower momentum in the middle order.

With this, he also asserted that Robin Uthappa will have to stand on those expectations as early as possible because the squad has good players loitering for their turns. Moreover, RR’s playing 11 will also change once the destructive all-rounder Ben Stokes comes in.

Gambhir To ESPN Cricinfo

Gambhir told ESPN Cricinfo in an interview that, we can’t hide the fact that time is running out for both Robin Uthappa and Riyan Parag due to their current form. To be honest, Robin isn’t looking in any kind of form. The same we could say for Riyan Parag.

Playing as a finisher role for other franchises and for the India team it’s obvious that Rajasthan Royals will also expect the same for him. If he won’t be giving what the team expecting him, then undoubtedly, it will clear the path for others on the bench.

And it’s sure that team combination will change when the England all-rounder Ben Stokes will come in the picture.

Conclusion

Uthappa has been bought for 3 crores by Rajasthan Royals and his last performances aren’t looking for what the franchise has invested for. If we check out the track then in his last four matches, Uthappa scored 17, 2, 9, and 5 runs respectively, which surely not a finishing knock.

Hope he gets back in form as the team already has lost their last 2 matches. Stay Tuned! For endless cricket updates.
