The 14fth edition of the Indian Premier League starts tomorrow. The first match of the IPL 2021 season is between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai.

The IPL has been a gobble event for the players and fans. This cash-rich league tournament is the one which had started the trend of franchise base cricket tournament.

In this league, the overseas players are important. The IPL is a successful tournament because there are many overseas stars take part in this long event.

The overseas players play an integral part in IPL as they make a perfectly balanced team side. There are eight overseas players in the squad. But only four of them can fit in the playing eleven.

It also thrills the overseas players when they get an IPL contract. The same feeling the Indian player gets when he is called to play for an IPL franchise. But some overseas players have not played a single T20 International match for their country. But they played this cash-rich league tournament.

In today’s segment, we shall name the top five overseas players who have played the matches of the Indian Premier League, and some of them have even captained an IPL side. But they have not played a single T20 International Match for their countries –

  • Shane Warne – The Australian Spin legend Shane Warne is the first name that occurs in this list. The Aussie spin bowler had played for Rajasthan Royals in the first season of 2008. He was the captain and Double R’s coach when they won the first and only IPL title.  But a bigger surprise is that Shane Warne has never played a T20 International match for the Australian cricket team. The Leg-spinner Maestro did not represent his nation in the shortest format of the game. But he played, captained, and coached an IPL side, which went on to win their only IPL trophy till now. Warne played 55 IPL matches, and he took 57 wickets to his name.
  • Hardus Viljoen – The Indian Premier League has given chances to uncapped Indian and Foreign players. Hardas Viljoen is uncapped player from South Africa. He is a right-arm fast bowler. In the IPL 2020 season, Viljoen was a member of the Punjab Kings team. But Viljoen had played only six IPL matches, and the KXIP franchise didn’t trust this uncapped more as they found some of their experienced players also struggle in the last season. Hardus has played a Test match for South Africa before. But he has never represented his country in T20 International. Hardus has picked up six wickets from the seven games which he has played so far. In IPL 2021 season, Hardus Viljoen is the net bowler for the Chennai Super Kings. After they did not buy Viljoen in the IPL 2021 auctions, CSK brought this SA pacer as their net bowler.
  • Darren Lehman – The former coach and the Australian Darren Lehman was part of IPL. But he hasn’t played any games in the shortest format in his career. In the title-winning year of Rajasthan Royals, Lehman was a part of RR camp in 2008. But he got only two games to prove his worth, and he scored just 18 runs in those two matches. Then Lehman shifted his attention to coaching. In the 2009 season, Deccan Chargers won the IPL title, and Lehman was the coach of that DC team. Darren was the part of two world cup wins for Australia. But he has played no T20Is for them.
  • Graham Napier – Graham Napier was the fast bowling all-rounder from Essex. He retired after the 2016 season. Many considered Napier as the most gifted fast bowling all-rounders of Cricket. He used to bowl consistently at 149 mph speed, and he also hit long sixes towards the end of an innings. Mumbai Indians brought this England bowling all-rounder Graham Napier in IPL 2009 season. He did well in county cricket. He scored 152 runs from just 58 deliveries. But for MI, he played only one IPL game in the 2009 season. Napier was the part of England in the World T20, but he didn’t get a single match despite all-around talent.
  • Davy Jacobs – Mumbai Indians used several batters as Sachin Tendulkar’s opening partner. Australia’s Aiden Blizzard was one of them, and the list also includes South Africa’s, Davy Jacobs. The right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman played seven matches for MI, and he scored 92 runs at an average of 13.14. Since his strike rate was below 100, the South African star soon lost his team. He has taken part in the IPL. But he never played a T20 International match for South Africa.
