UMPIRE DARYL HARPER GAVE SACHIN “SHOULDER BEFORE WICKETS” OUT

In 1999 Adelaide Test, Umpire Daryl Harper controversially gave him LBW in a Test Match against Australia and received a huge counterblast from Indian fans and viewers. By that time the Indian team was identical because of Sachin Tendulkar.

Fans and viewers remained very excited to see Tendulkar on the field. He was seen as the “GOD OF CRICKET” by the Indian fans and gained much popularity by his performance.

It all started when a test match was going on between India and Australia. Glenn McGrath was bowling and one of his bouncers made Tendulkar lower himself and the ball touched his shoulder.

There was an appeal for LBW and following the rules book, Daryl still made a decision which raised a huge argument at that time. Recently, in interaction with Asianet Newsable, Daryl said that he still believes that his decision for Sachin that time was right and he feels proud that he made such a decision without any fear or favor.

Daryl said that he always remembers that day whenever he looks at the huge canvas print of Sachin and Glenn which was taken at the time when the ball made contact and it was taken as a momentarily. He added that this is what an umpire is trained for. He said that after that incident one-sixth of the world’s population knew his name.

He revealed that in an informal meeting with former India chief selector MSK Prasad, who was India’s wicketkeeper at that time, in 2018 Prasad told him that Sachin also believes that it was the right decision taken by Daryl Harper.

Daryl also said that he loves to umpire India and it was a great experience to umpire India in 26 Tests and 44 ODIs. He added that Sachin and he were on good terms. The cricket is about decisions followed by an appeal after which players and umpires move on and that is the reason why he enjoyed umpiring India, especially in India.

So fans and viewers, who still think about the chaos between umpires and players, let me tell you that they just move on after the match as it is the basic rule of cricket. Stay tuned with us for more updates and information about the cricket world.
