Chennai Super Kings has won the hearts of 40.9 million fans among 124.2 million cricket fans. Furthermore, the research says that it is the most popular IPL team in India and has the biggest sports franchisee in India. The 13th Indian Premier League (IPL) edition was successfully concluded recently. The world’s toughest and richest T20 league was played in the UAE because of the situation of COVID 19 in India.

UAE not only had previous hosting experience but also had the ability to provide a bio-secure bubble for the safety of the players. The support of the fans encourages the morale of the teams, which increases players’ trust, and are always happy to perform before their fans.

Fans are the biggest part of the IPL and bring many innovations each year to strengthen their team. As in 2020 matches in the UAE were played behind closed doors, and only by social media were the fans able to connect with the teams. Since the beginning of the IPL, all franchises aim to connect with fans by building a community on social media platforms. The official reports and handlings of all teams keep their fans up-to-date with their team events whether it be team announcements, injury updates, or new signatures. Now quickly let’s take a look at what was the table like in terms of social media fans

1. Chennai Super Kings 9.4 Million

The fan following of CSK witnessed an unprecedented surge during the last IPL season, largely attributed to the unwavering loyalty and adoration for the iconic leader, MS Dhoni. The “Whistle Podu” spirit echoed louder than ever as fans celebrated their beloved team and its charismatic captain. With Dhoni’s enigmatic presence on and off the field, CSK’s fan base reached new heights, creating an electric atmosphere that fueled their remarkable journey.

Despite being suspended from the IPL for 2 years the men in yellow are still the most followed ipl team on Twitter with 9.4 million followers. MS Dhoni’s stardom is one of the reasons for its success on social media!

2. Mumbai Indians – 8.0 Million

Mumbai Indians might have won the 2020 IPL comprehensively but they were not able to beat CSK in the Twitter encounter as CSK were the most followed team on Twitter. Mumbai Indians with 8.0 million followers are still 2nd on the table in terms of Twitter followers.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders – 5.1 Million

Kolkata knight Riders are also not quite behind in terms of Twitter followers with 5.1 million followers. King khan’s team is expected to be rated high on social media with the stardom their co-owner possesses.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore 6.5 Million

The Royal challengers from Bangalore are not quite up to the mark with bat and ball as well as on the Twitter board by their fans in the 2020 IPL, they stand 4th on the Twitter followers list with 6.5 million followers. RCB’s skipper Virat Kohli recently became the most followed Indian athlete by completing 100 million followers on Instagram

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 3.1 Million Followers

As compared to other franchises Sunrisers Hyderabad’s performance is considered quite good as compared to other franchises because they came into existence in 2013 and still manages to get 3.1 million followers on Twitter.

6. Punjab Kings 2.9 Million Followers

Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab, now their name being changed to Punjab Kings might not have had a good IPL 2020 but they would definitely look to make a strong comeback in 2021. Kl Rahul being the captain for them this year as well is seeking to lift the trophy for the first time this year. Kings XI Punjab ranks 6th with 2.9 million followers on Twitter.

7. Delhi Capitals 2.5 Million

From Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals their fortune also seems to have changed with the name performance also seems to have to take a big leap from the last few years. Delhi capitals are a team of quite a few interesting young talents in the lights of Shreyas Iyer the skipper, Prithvi Shaw, Avesh Khan, and quite a few of them. They do lack in the social media fans counts though with 2.5 million Twitter followers.

8. Rajasthan Royals 2.8 Million Followers

The Rajasthan Royals performance has not been good in both aspects whether it be the game on field or whether it is the social media game. The “Pink” team ranks last on the list with just 2.8 million Twitter fans all over the globe.
