10 Out Of 11 Players From 2011’s Indian World Cup Team Have Retired, Only One Remains

Ten players of the playing XI of the Indian team for the 2011 World Cup final have already retired. Now only one player from that team is involved in international cricket.

The Indian team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the 2012 World Cup. Then, before the third World Cup in 2023, the 10 Indian players who were part of the playing XI for the final match of the World Cup 2011 have retired. Now the only player playing cricket in that match is Virat Kohli.

On Wednesday, March 9, Shantakumaran Sreesanth announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. For seven years, he was banned from cricket for match-fixing but later received a clean chit from the BCCI and the courts. He also returned to competitive cricket but did not get the chance to do anything special. He also made his name in the mega auctions of IPL 2021 and IPL 2022, but he never found a buyer.

At the same time, if we talk about the playing XI of the Indian team who played that final, it includes stars like Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh.

Zaheer Khan, Munaf Patel, S Sreesanth were the pace batters of that team. Out of these 10 players, Virat Kohli is the only player still playing international cricket. However, all these players made their debut in international cricket long before Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli is 33 years old at the moment and will be 36 years old during the 2026 World Cup. Although his current form is not very good, looking at his fitness, it can be said that Virat Kohli can be a part of that World Cup with ease. Virat has played in the 2011, 2015, and 2019 ODI World Cups so far and is the only Indian to play in the last three ODI World Cups.
