Ashwin Or Kapil Dev? Gambhir Reveals Who’s The Best

In terms of statistics, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has made a big comment about India’s most successful off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. Gambhir has compared Ashwin to former India captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev as a star all-rounder.

According to the 2007 Twenty20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup final hero, Ravichandran Ashwin’s influence as an Indian all-rounder is as influential as Kapil Dev’s.

In the first match of the Test series against Sri Lanka, Ravichandran Ashwin has moved up to number two, overtaking Kapil Dev in the list of highest wicket-takers among Indians in Test cricket. The star off-spinner has achieved this feat in the Mohali Test match. Of course, Ashwin still has a long way to go before touching Anil Kumble in the first place.

Ashwin took a total of six wickets in two innings. He now has 438 wickets in Test cricket, more than the total of 434 by the legendary Kapil Dev. At the same time, by playing a superb innings of 71 runs with the bat, Ashwin has again shown the level of his all-round ability in Test cricket.

When asked if Gambhir is the second most successful all-rounder in India after Ashwin Kapil Dev, Gambhir replied that he thinks Ashwin is almost equal to Kapil Dev, not the second. He said, “Ashwin is not second, but he is equal to Kapil Dev to me. Because he has a huge impact on the Indian Test team.”

Ashwin has played 75 Tests in his career as a batsman and scored 2905 runs at an average of 26.14. On the other hand, Kapil Dev has scored 5247 runs in 131 Test matches at an average of 31.05.

Anil Kumble tops the list with 619 wickets, followed by Ashwin. In this regard, Kapil Dev praised Aswin. In this regard, he said:

“Ashwin has not been given a fair chance in the Indian team recently. However, he has an excellent record. I am happy that Aswin has taken the 2nd spot, which I have had for many years in the list of highest wicket-takers. Ashwin is a brilliant bowler. Next, he needs to set a target of 500 wickets. I firmly believe that he will be compelled to try and achieve this.”
