Beginning Of World Cup In Cricket

7th June establishes itself in the historical events for the commencement of the World Cup in Cricket. This day marks the introduction of the concept of the World Cup in ODI format for the first time ever in history.

Officially known as ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, it is an international championship of ODI cricket. It is organized every 4 years by the sport’s governing body, ICC. It is considered to be a flagship event of the international cricket calendar as it is the most viewed sports event.

However, the first World Cup began on 7th June 1975 and was held in England because it was the only nation that could afford to fulfill all the requirements of conducting such a major event of this magnitude.

Apart from South Africa, 8 teams participated in that event. South Africa got banned due to Apartheid. As the first 3 world cups were sponsored by England they came to know as prudential world cups.

ICC Trophy got introduced in the 2nd World Cup which was won by West Indies for the 2nd time. And as time passed different awards evolved to boost the morale of the participants.
