ICC Announces Return Of Neutral Umpires In International Matches

Due to Coronavirus, many changes have been seen in the world of cricket. The whole team had to live in a bio bubble. The players could not even shake hands with each other and the match was also held in an empty stadium. Along with this, a big change was also made regarding the umpire.

The International Cricket Council ( ICC ) had announced that keeping in view the epidemic, home umpires would be seen on the field instead of neutral umpires, but now this rule is going to end.

Neutral Umpires Will Return

International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barkley has said that neutral umpires will return soon.

They said,

“Now that we are out of Corona, we have decided to bring back neutral umpires. We took a decision on this in the board meeting held a few weeks ago. We are going to get the neutral umpires back again. Right now I can’t tell you the exact date for it.”

Home Umpires Were Getting A Chance Due To Corona

When Corona started in the year 2020, then cricket was not even being played and when cricket returned, it was announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the home umpire would get a chance instead of being neutral. According to the ICC, it will be difficult to move the umpires here and there in matches being played in a bio-secure environment.

There Was A Constant Debate

Significantly, due to the appointment of local umpires, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had to increase the reviews received by the teams. Teams were being given three more reviews in Tests and two in ODIs and T20s.

The reason behind this was that the International Cricket Council (ICC) felt that if local and less experienced umpires were appointed, there could be more scope for error. In such a situation, more reviews were given to the teams. Now the question is, will there be a cut in the review after the removal of the local umpires?
