India Is All Set To Make A World Record?

India is all set for the five-match T20I series against South Africa which is starting from Thursday with its fresh look. This series brings in a challenge for the team as legit seniors like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma won’t be a part of this team as they are on rest for their England tour which is due in July.

Apart from granting chances to players like Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Deepak Hooda to display their abilities, this match brings a great opportunity for the Indian cricket team to set a world record for the longest T20I winning streak with 13 matches.

Currently, India is at par with Afghanistan and Romania with a winning streak of 12 matches.

Afghanistan became the first team to win 12 matches from February 2018 to September 2019 followed by Romania which equaled the feat with a winning run that began in October 2020 and lasted till September 2021.

While India’s winning streak began in the 2021 T20 World Cup where they were successful in beating Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia successively.

Then India won three consecutive series against New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka – all with a 3-0 margin under Rohit Sharma’s guidance.

Now, if India can beat South Africa in the first T20 match then it would be India’s 13th win consecutively which will set a world record.

However, where everyone wants India to set this world record in their name, Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid in a press conference on Tuesday said that “Honestly, we have not thought about the record. We are not paying attention to the record. It is nice to win games.

But for me, a lot of this is about not worrying about creating records or numbers. We want to win every game we play. We want to prepare and practice well and get to the field with our tactics right and try executing them. If it happens, it is great,”

Now, It would be interesting to witness whether the Indian squad will be able to set a world record or not.
