Latham will lead New Zealand against Sri Lanka in ODIs as regular jet off for IPL

Tom Latham is going to lead the New Zealand team in ODIs against SriLanka in a three match series later this month. Many Black Cap players are released for joining their IPL clubs.

Latham will be the skipper of the New Zealand side who will play their first ODI match of the series on 25th March at Auckland’s Eden Park.

After the first test, many players are released for their IPL camps. Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Tim Southee (Kolkata Knight Riders), Devon Conway and Mitchell Santnee (Chennai Super Kings) will be released early after the Test Series.

Some other players like Finn Allen (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Lockie Ferguson (Gujarat Titans), and Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad) are going to leave their squad after the first ODI.

The first Test match was thrilling in which Williamson brought his team a nail biting win. Now the second test will be played at Wellington.

With the unavailability of star players due to IPL, new players from first class cricket will get a chance to showcase their talent. It will be an opportunity for them to show their talent and make a permanent place in the team.

In the ODI squad, Tom Blundell and Will Young are back while the uncapped players Chad Bowes and Ben Lister got a maiden call. Lister, Mark Chapman, and Henry Nicholls will have to join the squad ahead of the second ODI.

Lister has already made his debut in T20 against India but it is a big time for Chad Bowes who is a South African born batter and now got selected for the Black Caps.

New Zealand coach Gary has given a statement that Chad Bowes has been a very impressive top order batsman who has been continuously performing for Canterberry. Moreover, he is also a great fielder, so it is a great time to watch him perform in Internationals.

He also said, “we are going to play 16 White Ball matches from now till May and it is a good chance to test different players and know their skills. They will be familiar with different pitch conditions and make themselves prepared for it.”

“Tom Blundell is someone who has impressed with his batting abilities in the past 18 months. He has given a remarkable performance in the Test for the past few times and has also performed amazingly in domestic matches with Wellington Firebirds.”

The series is going to be very interesting and New Zealand cannot underestimate this Srilankan side because they have shown their positive approach in the first Test match. New Zealand have to go with the best playing eleven so that they can dominate this unpredictable Srilankan side.

No one has thought that Sri Lanka will win the Asia Cup because of their poor past performance. They are completely unpredictable and will come with a positive approach to fight against host side New Zealand. The first ODI is going to be played on 25th March at Wellington.
