Shaun Maclean Pollock, a South African cricket commentator and former player who served as captain in all versions of the game, was born on July 16, 1973. 

He is recognised as one of the best all-round players and fast bowlers of all time. Pollock, a true all-round bowler, teamed up with Allan Donald for many years as a bowling partner. 

He played for the Africa XI, World XI, Dolphins, and Warwickshire cricket teams in addition to serving as captain of the South African cricket team from 2000 to 2003. 

In 2003, he was selected as the Wisden Cricketer of the Year. And in November 2021 he got inducted to the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. 

He declared on 11 January 2008 that he will retire from all forms of international cricket after playing his 303rd ODI which was scheduled to be contested on 3rd February.

For the unversed Shaun Pollock is from a cricketing family. He wasn’t the only person who played cricket.

Cricket players in his family included Shaun’s father, Peter Pollock, and uncle, Graeme Pollock. They were among the cricketers from South Africa who had the most lasting influence.

Even his grandfather, Andrew Pollock, was a wicketkeeper for the Orange Free State. Andrew’s brother-in-law Robert Howden was also a cricketer who played for Natal.
