The Top Free Things to Do in London

So, you have all your plans for your holidays in London, got all your reservations made and everything is packed and all you have to do is hop on the plane and get over to see one of the busiest cities in all of Europe.

By now, you also have figured out the trip is becoming quite costly and may not be aware that there are some great things you can experience in London that are free. So to save a little bit on your wallet make sure to check out some of the places listed below, all of which are free of charge.

Take some time out of one of your days and go to Buckingham Palace and check out the world-famous changing of the guard.

Sure everyone does it, but why not? It is a royal tradition you won’t experience anywhere else in the world.

No matter what day of the week it is you go the changing of the guard happens every day at 11:30 am on the dot during the spring and summer months and if you are there in the winter or fall months you can experience it every other day.

Another place to go and experience is Queen Mary’s Rose Garden. This beautiful and worldwide known rose garden can be found in Regent’s Park in London. This garden may boast of some of the most beautiful roses you’ll ever see but they also offer a wonderful collection of delphiniums and around 9,000 different begonias.

The garden and the park are both free so why not have a nice stroll through both and even have a bite to eat at one of the cafes they offer inside the park.

If you are really into art and want to visit a place that’s going to take up some of your time indoors, you should go and check out the Tate Britain museum. This is a pretty big art museum that has art from the 1500s to the present day and displays them on three different floors of the building.

To get even more exposure to the art culture doesn’t forget to also check out the Tate Modern. This is a seven-story art museum that houses art from the 1900s to the present day. This is a must-see for all art lovers.

Walking is of course always free so take advantage of good weather and take a nice slow walk along with the South Bank of London’s Thames River and enjoy all the sites and sounds you’ll experience while walking along the banks. You’ll run into the Tate Modern, the London Eye as well as the famous Globe Theatre when you are taking this walk.

Don’t forget about visiting St. James Park. This is a quiet and quaint park that is free and lovely. It features three different royal palaces that border the park, one of them being the Westminster palace and has the Blue Bridge that gives you incredible views of London and also features a horse guard parade in the park as well.

Check out, Camden Market. You don’t have to buy anything if you don’t want to. There are plenty of things to see so feel free to do window shopping. However; if you do feel the urge to buy something you will be able to reasonable prices on a lot of local foods and clothes. You can also bargain with the owners of the shops to see if you can’t get things for even a lower price.

If you are into history, well you must be in you’re in London, but if you are looking for more history go check out Bunhill Fields. This is a burial ground for a lot of famous people that includes personal history lessons. Two famous non-conformists buried here would be William Blake and Daniel Defoe.

An incredible structure and work of art in its own right is Westminster Abbey and yes, it is free. There have been a ton of kings, queens, and other famous people buried at the Abbey. Even the funeral of Princess Diana was at Westminster Abbey.

No trip to London is complete without a visit to the seat of Catholicism in London and this would be the second-largest cathedral in the world, St. Paul’s Cathedral. This is more than worth your time just on the merit of its beauty and construction.

If you are Catholic there is no way you should leave this city without seeing this. As a tourist, you can visit between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:00 pm or you can attend Mass as well to be able to experience its beauty.
