KKR beat RCB by 81 runs in a match played at Eden Garden Kolkata. Shardul Thakur’s exceptional batting brought his team to a decent score in a short boundary.
RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first and decided to chase the target. The pitch was looking amazing for the batsman but in the second innings, the ball started gripping and spinners made the most out of it.
Narine and Chakravarthy have shown a class bowling display at their home ground. Both of them have collapsed the batting order of RCB and switched the match in KKR’s favor.
As it Happened
KKR came to bat first where Venkatesh Iyer went without making an impact. Just after Iyer’s wicket, Mandeep Singh went on to the next ball. The bowl was not swinging but Willey picked a better line and dismissed both of these batsmen.
Gurbaz was batting amazingly on the other end and completed his maiden IPL fifty when the team was struggling. But he also threw his wicket and the line-up came to backfoot.
At some point, it seemed that the team would collapse at a score of 150-160 runs. But, the Lord, Shardul Thakur came to bat and proved everyone wrong. He started smashing from the first ball and his thunder attack brought some energy to KKR’S camp.
Rinku Singh has given solid support and both of these batters have built a partnership of 100 runs in just 48 balls. This batting performance brought their team’s score to 204 runs. A poor line length cost RCB such a huge score after sending the half-team back.
Well, everyone remembers the partnership between Kohli and Du Plessis in the last match and expected the same thing here. They have done a great job in the first four overs.
That was the start of the collapse of RCB’s batting. Within just 10 runs, RCB lost four wickets. That’s where KKR shifted momentum towards them and added tremendous pressure on RCB.
Just after the first wicket of Virat Kohli, Faf also threw his wicket. The pitch started helping spinners and Varun Chakrathy did a great job and took four important wickets.
On the other hand, Narine has made a great contribution to the ball and took two important wickets in this match.
The debutant Suyas Sharma found it a bit difficult to choose a better line in the initial stage. But, he also found his line and took three wickets in his 4-over spell by giving only 30 runs. It was a dream debut match for Suyash Sharma.
No one batted well in RCB’s innings and kept throwing their wickets without making any impact. It was a great match where in the first quarter, it seemed like RCB would win this match by restricting KKR’s innings to just 160 runs.
However, no one thought that Shardul Thakur came to bat with different plans and diverted the whole match to KKR’s side.
