Which Country Won Most 50 Over Cricket World Cup

In all the 50 and 60 over forms, the World Cup has only ever been won by Australia and India. 

India is the only nation to have triumphed in the Men’s World Cup in 50, 60, and 20 overs so far. 12 teams are currently competing in various ICC Men’s competitions.

Among them are India, Australia, England, and New Zealand. Among the nations represented are Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Bangladesh, Ireland, the West Indies, and Sri Lanka.

Australia is the competition’s most successful team, having won five championships and placed second twice. The West Indies won the first two editions of the event (1975 and 1979), then Australia won three in a row (1999, 2003, and 2007). 

The 60, 50, and 20-over Cricket World Cups have all been won by India, the only nation to do so. India won the 20-over and 50-over World Cups under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2007 and 2011, respectively, after their victory in the last 60-over World Cup in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s leadership. It’s interesting that only the West Indies have a chance to match the achievement.

The One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup

Sometimes referred to as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is an international competition. Every four years, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport’s governing body, hosts the competition, which consists of preliminary qualification stages and a finals tournament.

The competition is one of the most-watched sporting events in the world and is referred to by the ICC as the “flagship event of the international cricket calendar.”

The One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup

Twenty teams in all have participated in the tournament’s eleven editions, with the most recent one in 2019 featuring ten teams.

The event has been won five times by Australia, twice by India and the West Indies, and once each by Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England. The best showing by a team without all of its members was in 2003 when Kenya advanced to the semifinals of the competition. 

After winning the World Cup in 2019, England is the current champion. The next World Cup will be hosted jointly in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027 after the 2023 event is staged in India.

A Triple From Australia (1999–2007) 

England served as the event’s host in 1999, and some of the games were also played in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and the Netherlands. The World Cup included twelve competing teams.

Australia reached its goal in their Super 6 encounter against South Africa off the game’s last over, advancing to the semifinals.

They subsequently advanced to the final after a drawn game against South Africa, when Allan Donald was run out after dropping his bat due to confusion between the South African batsman Lance Klusener and him.

In the championship match, Australia bowled out Pakistan for 132, completed the goal in less than 20 overs, and finished with eight wickets remaining.

Concluding Note

There have been 12 World Cup competitions thus far. Australia is the most successful nation, having taken home five World Cups. The only two nations that have won the world cup twice apiece are West Indies and India. 

While West Indies won the World Cup in 1975 and 1979, India won it in 1983 and 2011. The other two nations that won the World Cup were Pakistan and Sri Lanka, in 1992 and 1996, respectively. Only England has hosted the World Cup five times and lost three finals.
